"Painted on a rectangle canvas each square tells its own story of bottled-up emotions and a sense of being trapped. At the far end of the piece the boxes disappear, the paint covers the canvas from top to bottom without any boundaries, the paint applied with free, no-order brush strokes, delivering a simpler less chaotic ending. Chaos unfolds in each square; each individual segment is attempting to invade the other as the paint strays into neighboring territory, resembling confused emotions. The textured paint portraying the muddled mind having to deal with so many emotions which are accumulating and racing around the body.
I painted this piece to reflect the age in which we are living, a reflection of the stresses and anxieties that manifest themselves in each individual mind; the constant overthinking, anxiety and OCD. The observer will relate to this painting in their own individual way. I want this piece to be aesthetically pleasing to look at, whilst also appealing to the inquisitive mind. When I initially finished this work, it had a matte finish which on reflection I was unhappy with. I decided to apply lacquer to give it a look of shine as a way of accentuating the darker colours, making the piece more vibrant."
